mortality ramble...
my mom fell down the other day. she was alone at a pet sitting job of hers at a house that she loves to stay at in Walnut Creek. luckily, i was near by at home in San Ramon when she phoned me. i was there within 15 minutes. turns out that she was ok, no obviously broken bones but she tripped going down a 2" step and fell on her face. she must have bounced is all i can guess, or an angel of some sort cushioned her fall because the woman is not unfragile.
funny how last week was so dead, work wise for me and how potentially busy this week may be. Julia wrote to me and said she wants to hang out. How cool is that? A woman just up and wrote to me suggesting we "hang out"? I cannot remember that ever happening before, not in such a casual statement as that. Although there was one girl when I was at UCSC that had said to me that we should get together sometime to watch horror films together and that we could "do anything" together. i never made time for her. damn. her name was Jennifer and she was even a redhead! who knows whether that "anything" was a legitimate offer or not... she could not have been older than 20 at the time, and that was back when i was only in my late 30's. funny, but me being the age i am now and wanting to hang out with 20 year olds does not seem as strange. not to me at least.
well, i am writing more these days, even if it is only to blog. i see it as subconsciously being a mechanism to get my finger/brain connection revved up for the novel writing process. back to my mom. i told her last week that i was not going to be taking that many more concert assignments from now on. i'm not sure why i'm doing that other than because i want to free up time for the novel writing. i doubt that she had a subconscious reason for falling, to get me out of going to the concert i'm scheduled to photograph this coming Wednesday night, the freaking New York Dolls!, but, i've decided to back out of it and give the assignment to one of the other GCM photographers.
as for what i have scheduled for the rest of this week, i have a photo shoot scheduled for Friday with a new model, my first actual model assignment from ModelMayhem; a young woman from San Ramon named Mackenzie. we are going to do her shoot at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland Friday afternoon. and on Thursday i am going on a trip with Gigi's senior center to visit John Steinbeck's house in Salinas. i originally agreed to go with her on that because i too thought it would be interesting, but now it is good that i am going so that i can watch after her.
Saturday was supposed to be the Christian death metal concert in Modesto. Ray was going to go out there with me, something i was happy about having a partner to be with. i don't know what it would be like driving up there in my bumper stickered car with all my long hair, it being a bit of a cowboy town. i could ask Muhammad to go with me i suppose... oh yeah, Ray had to cancel as he got a wedding engagement gig to photograph with his wife all weekend. Ray would have been the most fun to go with as he is the most metal maven i know. plus, he's a real bad ass looking dude! nobody messes with me when i go to shows with him! hahaha!
well, i just chatted with Ray and he wants to do the photo at the Dolls show. good for him. the guy is a force to be reckoned with. these guys that live in The City, it is so much easier for them to go to all these shows. i've said it before, i wish i lived some place better.
as for the mortality ramble, it all comes down to living one day at a time and living to the fullest, right? we cannot predict what will happen and just need to carry on doing all that we can with love and vigor.
