750 words - day 8

 Didn't have as much focused energy today as I had yesterday. Slept late, and deeply, had dream activity before waking that was on the verge of being memorable, but still not quite there yet. Using nothing at all for sleep assistance (meds/tea/melatonin) other than kratom, which mainly helps me relax, drowsiness is not achieved from it, but I think the deeper states of relaxation are what help me feel as rested and restored as I become (even though I had trouble motivating to get up today - sunshine coming in windows after weeks of dreary grey skies shocked me). So two things occurred in my life activity today, that are of note. One is an experience of receiving multiple notifications on my phone telling me that tomorrow (now, today) is my great grandmother Nancy Wright's birthday. What struck me as unusual about this is that I normally only get one notification from my calendar apps. I got the same message 5 or more times today. So I finally settled into that occurrence and de...

cycling systems of understanding thru the years...

This is my annual, typical, probably getting boring blog entry about my relationship with my dad. Dad's birthday was yesterday (October 5, 1932). He was born in Springfield, Ohio and that is where he is buried too. He died on September 7, 1969 in San Leandro, California). 36 years, 11 months and 2 days of living in this world was all the time he was allotted to figure things out with. His last couple of years, he became very quiet. Well, he was a pretty quiet man all the time that I knew him - he was not a big thinker or talker (the total flip side of how my step-father was - he was a huge talker and very extroverted. probably the greatest influence by an extrovert I ever experienced was from him.) no, my dad was very introverted. and where I was going with that thought was that the last couple of years of his life he was more quiet than usual - and I think that was because of the physical pain he must have been in. He died from lung cancer. 75% of his lungs were eaten up by the ca...

My Mom ROCKS!

The continued celebration of our birthdays today. We visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. I was actually quite moved emotionally. The displays of genuine rock and roll memorabilia are so beautifully designed and arranged. I plan to buy a membership and come back to visit as often as I can. Unfortunately they do not allow cameras inside the display areas. The photos I have in Flickr were taken inside the lobby. Well, most of them!

Happy Birthday, BRIAN ENO!!!

Image
Brian Eno has influenced my taste in music and my appreciation of art I think more than any other living musician has. He is a living legend whose influence on the advancement of modern music and art is unheralded. Please join me in rejoicing that two people fell in love and gave life to this magnificent renaissance man! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_eno More images of Brian Eno... Brian's discography ... and be sure to check out the videos that I have posted in the sidebar!!!

Happy Birthday, Graham Gouldman (of 10cc fame)!

Image
"He's one of the great legends of British pop, of course: the man who wrote 'For Your Love' for The Yardbirds, the former member of The Mindbenders, and - best of all - one quarter of the original 10cc. 10cc were the consummate British pop group of the 70s, fantastically successful in commercial, artistic and even critical terms. The fact that their name isn't mentioned as often as it should be nowadays is partly because their brand of flawless perfection in pop is unfashionable in an age of under-achievement and partly because they were too damn good to be an influence on anyone - you just couldn't compete." Happy Birthday Chuck! {45yo}

It's the birthday of one of the few contemporary novelists to sell a lot of books to young men, Chuck Palahniuk , ( books by this author ) born in Burbank, Washington (1962). He wanted to be a writer in college, but his writing professors didn't like him. So he got a job as a diesel mechanic at Freightliner Trucks, which paid well but made him miserable. He became addicted to drugs and alcohol. And then he moved to a house near a hill that somehow blocked his TV's reception. At first he was unhappy without television, but it inspired him to start reading on a regular basis for the first time since he was a teenager. He discovered the work of contemporary fiction writers like Amy Hempel and Denis Johnson, and they inspired him to start writing fiction of his own. The first novel Palahniuk tried to publish was turned down by a series of publishers because it was too violent and bleak. So for his next novel, he decided to write something even more violent and even more ble...

It's the birthday of James Joyce , ( books by this author ) born in Rathgar, Ireland, just outside Dublin (1882). He's best known today for Ulysses (1922), his attempt to recreate a single day in the city of Dublin, with all its sights, sounds, smells, as well as the many different kinds of people, the way they talked, and what private thoughts floated through their heads as they went about their daily lives. He wrote the novel while living in voluntary exile in Zurich, and he did all kinds of research to get the details right. He asked his Aunt Josephine to send him copies of anything to do with Ireland: newspapers, magazines, history books, guidebooks, maps, and photographs. Because he chose June 16, 1904 as the day on which the novel would take place, he made sure to include real details about things that had happened on that day, including sporting events, news items, and even newspaper advertisements that appeared in newspapers on that day. The first printing of...
