the cross and a crux...

strangely, i spent the easter weekend a bit obsessed with thoughts of Christ. not a lot, not as many as in many Easters past, and it's not all airtight either. i'm still thinking about him today and it may take a few more days before i get the things figured out right now that i need figured out. it started weeks ago when they started serving fish and chip dinners at St. Raymond's on Friday nights for Lent. when i get near or go into a Catholic church, i get flashbacks to when I lived in Ireland, where the doors of Catholic churches are open every single day and people go in and out of them for the purpose churches were built for. i miss that. i used to enter a church in Ireland every single day I was there and I wasn't even Catholic. i'm still not. but i got this thing for Jesus. a respect thing. i watched a clip from Jesus Christ Superstar the other night on my phone (via youtube), the scene of Judas' death. totally made me cry. i used to watch JCS several t...

new focus...

last night something came upon me, a remembrance of the spirit of the shakti and i suddenly felt inspired to let a new, yet old power of concentration and insight return to my life. i think part of what started to surface in my mind was the enormity of the work i've laid out for myself in the upcoming four months. i've booked my calendar tightly with photo shoots thru mid-June, have three new photo books in progress and then there is the trip to Chicago in August. a lot more work than my wavering mind/spirit/body's health can handle in their normal mode of boogie-till-you-drop gonzo-ism. so i came home from soaking/steaming at the gym a little perked to make some shifts in my consciousness to create some cracks in my numbskull for some discipline of the shakti to filter in. basically played some recordings of Gurumayi chanting the mantra for a few hours and cleaned up my room a little bit. tried to think of some other major movements i could make in the layout of my bedro...

the trip to san juan... no new gray hairs, no new cajones either...

i just returned home from a one week visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico to see my son get married. my son is 28 years old and he married a woman that is 30 years old. it's the first marriage for both of them. i had a lot of anticipation about this trip, things that would happen, could happen... some nervousness, primarily about travelling with my 81 year old mother. i've traveled with her a lot over the past few years and she is always hardy and excitable on trips, so i had no basis for grand fears. still, at this age you never know when something could go wrong. thankfully, nothing did go wrong. all of the planes we flew on performed perfectly. our hotel accommodations were impeccable and the people we met everywhere were angelic. never had a tense or untoward encounter with anyone. i think part of my nervousness was the fact that Mercury Retrograde had been entered right at the time our trip was beginning and astrologers warn that it is not a good time to travel, spend money, or ...

i think Facebook could use some functional, attitudinal improvements...

my thoughts are not very organized about this so i may rant a little bit now and develop better suggestions later. it seems that Facebook is truly run by a bunch of partying college kids and not by business professionals. the format is more like a dorm room where a keg party is going on than a business office where professionals are trying to negotiate deals. i'm over the partying and now want to get down to business. FRIENDS i have accumulated a lot of friends of all sorts of different natures. the two primary classifications that appear on my profile page i have titled "photographers" and "writers". but there are also "models", "musicians", and "taphophiles" that i have created groups for, but they do not easily appear near the surface of my profile. in fact, i'm not sure how to find those other groups. furthermore, what i'd really like to be able to do is send messages to a very select group of people based on clas...

My Puerto Rican epic fails...

I failed to lay on the beach. I failed to complete reading Hunter S. Thompson's "The Rum Diaries". I failed to get drunk on rum. That's all. Otherwise I was happy. Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.8

In the air in a daze...

Sometimes life is more dreamlike than we realize. You drive to an airport at sunset in California then get off a plane at sunrise in New York. Weird how many comments my Frank Zappa t-shirt gets in California but then no one gives you/him a second glance in New York. watching the faces and garb of the flyers bound for NYC, noticeably different than who you'd see flying to Chicago. There was an eerie moment around 2am, I stood up and looked down the long corridor of our jet. All 120 passengers sat in the dark trying to sleep, 35,000ft above the rest of the sleeping nation. Looked like a ghost vessel. When we got off the plane my first need/desire was to get a neck & shoulder massage. And right there at our adjoining gate was a mini spa offering massages for $25. Bliss.
