culmination of my concert photography career

Adrian Belew Power Trio - Slim's - 2.23.2008 This is one of the most favorite of all the concert photos I've ever taken. It's the closing moment of the show when Adrian introduces Julie and Eric Slick to the audience. Strangely, I only photographed one more concert after this show. These photos were some of the best I ever shot. The last concert I shot (Explosions in the Sky) - well, the results were like I had never shot a concert at all before. The photos were so bad. It was like the magic spell had worn off. The performer's expressions in this photo speak so much to me. About the realization and manifestation of the dream I had of becoming a concert photographer since I was 18 years old, which occurred in the 49th year of my life. Who knows what old dreams will come true in the upcoming years. Thank you Adrian, thank you Robin Slick, thank you Spin Magazine, thank you Ground Control Magazine, thank you Guitar Player Magazine, thank you Grayceon, thank you all the oth...

A fun slide show of Julie Slick photos from Saturday night. I was on her end of the stage and it was impossible to get any close up shots of Eric, her brother with my lenses so I focused on getting as many shots of Julie that I could. You can see the original versions of these photos of Julie here . And you can see the rest of the band photos here .

Adrian Belew Power Trio concert - first thoughts...

don't worry, i will write a full and proper review of the concert for publication at Ground Control Magazine in a few days. right now i need to share and document some of my immediate feelings. first off, the first most amazing thing that happened tonight was arriving at the ticket office at Slim's and finding once again that my name was NOT on the guest list. Slim's is losing my respect in this department because as usual, once the tour manager is found everything is rectified. this was amazing in a NEGATIVE sense. next amazing thing was meeting Renee (Tickledrop) in line. in fact, i didn't even take 2 steps from the ticket window when she walked up to me and called out my name. i have only seen this woman once before and that was in Santa Cruz at the ABPT show back in November 2006. first thing she said was to comment on, how in my blog i talked about coming off meds. she said that she could tell that a definite change had occurred in my countenance, that i seemed mo...

the photo shoot that started it all...

November 11, 2006, the Adrian Belew Power Trio performed at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz. I had been granted admission to the performance because of some awful quality photos I shot at their San Francisco show two nights before. This slideshow is a little fun I've had with some high contrast edits. They are coming back to play in San Francisco on February 23 at Slim's. The quality of photos I hope to take should knock these photos out of the water.

An evening with Adrian Belew @ the effing Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!!

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum : Museum : Calendar You can read more detail about the dedicated journey of 2/3's of the Power Trio's efforts to make it to this gig tonight here at Robin Slick's blog. Can anyone believe this weather they are experiencing back east and the fact that it is going to be sunny and in the 70's here in Cali this weekend?
