ghost hunting; excursion #2

After the relative success of being able to decipher words out of the buzzing darkness in Colma, we were anxious to have another go of it in our favorite local cemetery, Alamo Cemetery near the town of Danville (California). Long time readers of my blog know about this place and my affinity for it.''

We're still learning how to do this, by feeling it out. This time I brought a bag of tricks; incense mainly which I feel are essential to open the doors of perception. A little bit of ritual, nothing fancy or overly ornate. Both to open the doors of insight but also to assure the spirits that we are friends. Happily I've found a place down the street that sells a fair selection of incense from India, cheap. The main incense I love to have a supply of is "dhoop", and they have tons of it. We started at my old friend Grant's gravesite, the place we normally start all of our nights of cemetery investigation when we're here.

We were really delighted to find that the spirits here were not so noisy, like they were in Colma, and also that they not as edgy/neurotic. Here is a list of the words we believe that we heard uttered through the Echovox. The very first thing we heard at Grant's grave was "too bad", which in retrospect after today's visit - in which we came to the mutual conclusion that we believe Grant's spirit is no longer present in the cemetery. Not because we failed to arouse him through conversation, but more simply because he died over 40 years ago and even at that time in his life, he was quite evolved spiritually. We want to believe that he has moved on from here, that he's finished his work on this plane and really has no reason to still linger here. Then, upon hearing "too bad", it was probably a neighboring spirit that uttered those words of sorrow about his tragic loss. And in that vein, "too bad" could be a general theme for many buried in Alamo Cemetery... in one way, everybody that dies, it's "too bad", but more so in the cases of those who died too early in their lives. There are a LOT of very young souls that left their bodies in this cemetery.

So continuing with the word list; "light", "perfect", YOU -- spoken loudly, "it", hi", the name "Heather", "no problem", "repulsion (or) petition", "thank you", "no problem", "at first", "perfect night", "friend/spirit", "good luck", "did you", "beast", "two" for the 2 of us - we thought, "work" because my friend was wearing her "work shirt", "sleep", the word "German" - which eventually led to the hearing of German-sounding words, "friend"...  All of these words we picked up just while sitting at Grant's grave.

We then decided to move through the cemetery to some of the other graves that we are familiar with. The next one we went to was the young woman named Tara. We didn't linger there for long, and heard nothing of clear significance. We then moved up towards the center of the hill to one of the gravesites that we have had a lot of energetic activity from in the past, the married couple we refer to as The Fereira's. In the past when we reach their grave my friend usually feels a surge of joyful energy wash over her and she giggles romantically at an assumption that the couple must have been extremely in love with each other. We noticed the dates of their deaths today, and she live 40 years longer than he did. Anyway, on this visit since we had the Echovox running we were paying attention to the sounds being emitted, and my friend did not tune into that joyful energy immediately. It came later though.

Here are the words that we believed we heard "from them". Now the very first thing I heard led me think deeply because the words had a hidden meaning specific to me. I thought I heard the word "grips", and then shortly after the word "rip" came up. Those are gymnastic terms from my youth. I briefly thought that somehow, someone near there knew me or recognized me as being a local (I went to high school in Danville) and tuned into a very specific memory that very few people know about. Also, those two terms are so extremely specific to the practice of gymnastics, the association was too uncanny to have not been from someone that knew me in my youth. I do not know who it could have been. Although my gymnastics coach from high school died last year and I have suspected for awhile that his remains could have been placed in this cemetery. It's information I do not have access to.

So continuing with more words, the sound "Oct" occurred over and over, and eventually but not until the next visit we made, the full word "October" was spoken. We then noticed too that Bernie Feriera died on October 30 2007.  I teasingly thought I heard the word, "jeepers" uttered, and "word" was spoken quite loudly! "Two people" was spoken loudly, "cuddle", "tell me", "friend", "protect", "blue"...  PROTECT FRIEND made me feel that it was a suggestion to take care in protecting my friend, probably from invasion or attacks from unfriendly spirits or energies, something my friend and I have discussed at great length and are in fact taking measures to ensure her not being followed home by unsavory energies. Okay, then one of the coolest, clearest utterances we've experienced happened. I heard the word/name "LAXMI", pronounced Lakshmee and I immediately knew someone was reading the box of incense that had been placed back inside the carrying bag. Immediately after hearing Laxmi, I heard the word "DHOOP" - pronounced "doop", which is the full name of the incense, written clearly on the box, "LAXMI DHOOP". THEY WANTED MORE INCENSE TO BE BURNED! So I lit up another piece of the tarry incense for them.

More words... we are pretty sure that we both heard the word "Fuck" uttered several times. Whether is was uttered as a curse, or as a suggestion/memory of the act, we could not tell. We giggled at it though. We also heard the name, "FRANK", and we both know Franks that have deceased, my step father and her grandfather. "Pretty", "DERP" - which also made us giggle, "crazy", and even perhaps "floppy"...

We left not too much after this. We went up to Callie Chrisman's grave at the top of the hill. She is the very first person buried in this cemetery, way back in 1864. Darkness had started to fall (we first arrived around 6pm and dusk was just starting to fall upon the cemetery. It was not entirely dark when we reached the top of the hill, but it was dark enough that I could not see clearly enough to write notes any longer. What also happened was that the voices started to become "many", more voices, speaking over each other, confusing us. We began to walk down the hill to exit, and we made one more stop at young, 14 year old Kirsta's grave, a nearby neighbor to Grant. The confusion of voices did not diminish, and I thought I heard the word "fuck", again, by a male voice - it had been spoken by both male and female before. Then within a few moments afterwards, the word "pervert" came up. This started to disturb us because we were only left to speculate about what the meanings could we became frightened for dear Christa's, well, past. Rather than stick around and speculate too much, we decided to leave the cemetery and go home. We made one more stop by the grave of you baby boy, right by the entrance of the cemetery - a spot that my friend has felt a fondness for over the years. The confusion of voices did not diminish, so we just left.

We also decided (tonight on our next visit) that we will get him a new nightlight. The battery on his existing one has fallen out of its holder because of erosion by the elements.

burning dhoop at my friend's grave.
