oh the quandary's of the artists life...

Helen & Nisha - Cemetery Girls

last you heard from me i had decided to not shoot more fashion oriented "Cemetery Girls" because they were distracting me from writing my novel. the last two, very specifically focused "Cemetery Girls" i shot were two teenage girls in my ugly, muddy, and uninviting cemetery in Danville, the actual location of the cemetery where my novel takes place.

and these shoots were fantastic! the cinematic quality of the shots we got were really phenomenal in aiding me create very real visual representations of what i imagine my novel's character to actually look like. exactly what i hoped to achieve. these photo sets are the "Kim" and "Helen" sets. well, part of my being able to photograph Helen was agreeing to also shoot her friend Nisha. the thing was, that after Helen's shoot at the Danville cemetery i felt that there were not many more photos that could be taken there; the place is so uninspiring.

so today i suggested to Nisha that we go to the cemetery in the city of Dublin instead. she agreed that shooting in a different cemetery would be more fun. but then i started to think a little bit more and imagined that if the three of us actually went to the cemetery in Oakland, that I could shoot Nisha, but I could also do a dual girl shoot of the both of them... and they liked the idea too.

and darn it but wasn't the shoot the most fun ever!!! we got some AMAZING photographs! the girls are so beautiful and exotic and different than anyone else i have ever shot before. wow, it was just fantastic. i am backlogged on photos that need to be edited and can't get to the shots from today yet. i just wanted to show you a sample of what they looked like today. that is what that shot above is.

but the quandary persists. i feel like shooting beautiful shots like this is becoming second nature to me, but the time it takes to find new models, do the actual shoot, then the post processing... it takes days, and days, and days... and i cannot focus on my novel at all. i don't know what to do. the experience today was fulfilling on deeper levels too. i got to hang out and have a good time talking with some really cool people. we listened to music, drank coffee, and just enjoyed each others company. something i surely do not get to do when i have to lock down and concentrate on just writing.

see, the problem now is that as soon as i got home i started to instinctively think about how to find someone new to photograph. i did not come home and think about when will i next start to write...

advice?? anyone??
