lighting the creative fires, NOW

Okay so it's Scorpio Season again, which should really be the most potent period of the year for my own creative endeavors. Since I also have Scorpio as my rising sign, it's a time when I should be flooded with creative ideas and energy... Last year at this time this energy kicked in quite easily and naturally for me, but this year I've been missing the calling just a litle bit. So this is an effort to kick it up, ignite the fire, and talk out loud about some ideas I have...

I know I was talking about doing Nanowrimo in some recent posts. That project begins on this upcoming Monday! Just 3 days away. I've had experiences in the past where I would begin writing at the turn of midnight... after being up all night for Halloween enticements, I'd go to my local cemetery with my laptop, sit at the top of the hill and write my first 1660 words. I'm not that spiritually excited this year to do that... not yeat at least. There have been years where I have spent the entire month of October brainstorming writing out notes of what my novel would be about. I have not done that this year either.

It feels good to be assessing my current state of mind, in comparison to former Novembers of constant writing, but I don't know if this is too little too late to get my fire hot enough to jump in and participate this year. Part of my reluctance is about how none of what I've written in Nanowrimos in the past has never been read by anyone. That's not a entirely truthful statement. One year my good ol'buddy Thomas read one of my complete outpourings, in it's unedited form. God bless him for that service. And I've shared chapters with a couple other people, but it's just a weird thing to get pulled into the mystique of putting so much energy into a huge writing project that has an inherent likelihood of never being read. I don't know how many other Nanowrimo-ers have this comparable experience and how it impacts their desire to do the work again... I'd say that it is probably a pretty high precentage. One of the most discouraging things is to read the Twitter Nanowrimo feed and see this people boasting that they've written their 50,000 words one or two weeks into the project... when the majority of us genuinely struggle at making the daily word count. More professional or accomplished writers like that should curb their egos and offer their expertise as coaches, or editors for us who really struggle with our writing. Anyway, that's a bit of a rant there that I didn't anticipate spouting off about.

So where do my ideas lie for potential novel writing right now?

My fascination with supernatural/paranormal topics is a continually flowing river of interest for me. But rather than writing something entirely morose and dark, like my Cemetery Girl leaned towards being, I'm now more interested in my efforts going towards bright and happy outcomes... bringing healing and understanding to the characters lives and to the world. This is a sign of the healing I've gone thru in my own life in the past few years. I also think that this could turn into a source of motivation for me to actually get myself to the cafe and do the work everyday. If I can view writing creatively as a tool of bringing healing to the world, that's really doing a lot. Also, I could still have the attitude that it's ok if the public never reads my works because I would be doing the healing work while sitting here writing. The energy of bringing healings to my characters, rather they are imagined or real life beings would transmit the healings to someone, somewhere... And if I could focus on writing stories about my ancestors, I could psychically tune into the time lines of their lives and ascertain actual scenarios of their experiences to turn into stories. This would greatly benefit from more meditation on my behalf. I was just telling my best friend last night about hwo I wish that I would spend more time in meditation, because the more I meditate, the better all of my life experiences turn out to be. I meditated last night before bed, which is my typical routine, but then I also got up early this morning and meditated again. Morning time is when the majority of people meditate, so that felt good doing it today. Part of what assisted me in having some clear headedness this morning was having taken a smaller dose of my nighttime medications last night. I was a litle troubled from this during the night because I didn't get to sleep until 430am. That's WHY I take these medications, because if I don't use them I get manic at night with my thinking and get hyper on the thrill energy of feeling mentally activated while the rest of the local world are asleep. So last night I was watchibg a horror film (that I've seen several dozen times) and saw in the opening credits that the film was taken from an actual novel... So I found a copy of the novel on line and began reading it while watching the movie. I might try to finish the novel, not sure though, I got thru 3 chapters of it last night.

Whats still a hindrance for me in the mental blocks I feel about writing at home. IT'S BEEN HARD FOREVER AND I STILL CAN'T FIND A WAY TO OVERCOME THIS ISSUE. Maybe I could even try sitting in my car in the driveway and see if I can write there. I've always felt like the block is distractions in my room. Getting focused and intent of JUST writing is hard. When I go to a cafe, it's like I'm at work. I have an assignment. I get focused. I DO THE WORK. in my room, surrounded by my comforts and other interests, it's just too easy for my mind to wander....

Okay, so back to the IDEA LIST for what to start writing creatively about....

Last weekend when I was pet sitting in someone elses house, I had a brilliant download of an idea while I was doing a healing/reading for my best friend. Via meditation a nugget of a vision came into my awareness of my friend's condition in a past life. But it was so packed with insight and perspective, it felt like something that I could delve into creatively to turn into a story, tapping into the spirit energy of what she was then and what she was going thru and how it could help her better understand her life now. THIS FEELS LIKE A VALID METHOD FOR HELPING BRINGING HEALING TO PEOPLE.

So now I've just got to get started and DO IT. The fire is lit, the ideas are brimming... I'm going to meditate some more, converse with my spirit guides about this, and get some oomph into my fingers and let this story work begin!! Stay Tuned!!

I've never participated in Nanwrimo but have always thought of it as an exercise. A way to jump start a novel and then build upon it. Most novel standards have average word counts. 50,000 words is more novella form. So the Nano process seems a way to create the bones of a novel and then flesh it out over a longer period of time than 30 days. But the idea of participating in Nano as a way to motivate and meet a deadline makes sense and can be helpful. On the other hand, November is just one month of twelve, and not even the longest! That leaves eleven months to write in, too. I have my cowboy den-library and I find that conducive to creativity. Maybe there is some part of your house that can be your private creative space? But cafes, parks, libraries are great too! Anywhere you can sit and write works! You are a creative person and if you want to write, you will! Your friend, Thom

Great insights Thom! What I ended up doing for my LARGE novel writing project was to combine the results of 3-4 consecutive Nanos into one complete novel... You could be a coach or a teacher with this knowledge that you have! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
