EARTHQUAKE!
Half an hour ago there was a 4.2 earthquake that they are saying was centered southwest of Walnut Creek. THAT IS WHERE I LIVE! It was a jolting, not a rolling quake but not really all that strong. Nothing fell off any shelves in our house and it lasted for less than five seconds. Funny, I didn't hear the birds (my parakeets in the next room) react in anyway. Weird thing is that the first reaction I notice I usually have when there is an earthquake is that I smile. Like, "I defy you Mother Earth to strike us here!" Not that great of a way to think about these things because they CAN be really destructive. Until you hear what the results on the Richter scale are on the news you don't know if you were just feeling the outer waves or the actual center of the quake; whether your experience WAS just a joy-ride or whether there was serious destruction somewhere far away. Thankfully this was just a slight burp. Oh, and I was here during the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. That was different. Frightening. I was just about to leave work and our boss came out and offered us beer. That was something that had never happened before. That quake seemed to go on and on. Lasted 30 seconds at least. We got down on the floor under our workbenches. Ok, that is enough about that.
