Change of plans, for the better!
Well, Saturday night was supposed to be spent in San Francisco photographing the bands Spindrift and Dead Meadow at Cafe Du Nord. Turns out that Cafe Du Nord has a strict "no cameras" policy unless permission has been given by the bands & establishment management. I did not learn of this until yesterday afternoon. I DID have permission by the bands to photograph them but Cafe Du Nord requires at least one days notice prior to show date for their approval. So if I had gone to the show they would not have let me in with my equipment. Last night was not a good night, traffic-wise to go to San Francisco anyway with the Chinese New Years Parade happening. Soo, I stayed home and listened to the Jeff Menke Radio Show (WNKU Radio Rainbow Bridge - 9pm PST, Saturday nights) on the Internet instead.
My muse, Robin Slick had spoken about him in a couple of recent posts on her blog and I listened to a phone interview that Jeff had with Adrian Belew last week. It's such an excellent interview that gives a lot of insight into Adrian's personality, genius and kindness, plus it explains a lot of the story about Robin's children Eric and Julie and how they became part of Adrian's "Power Trio".
So anyway, (and THAT is a phrase that I have got to get rid of from my writing) Robin had mentioned that it was cool to phone Jeff up during the show and talk to him. And I did just that. What a great guy with such a wealth of knowledge the history of King Crimson, Frank Zappa and progressive rock in general. He was keen to listen to me talk about my experiences with The Slicks and Adrian and even wanted to know how to find my blog. We talked for about 15 minutes then he had to get back to play the next set of songs on the show. Well right then he did a "shout-out" to Robin (who lives in Philadelphia) saying that he had just spoken to "Daryl Darko" in California! It was so cool!
Ok, there is more going on but it may take another post to get it out later. Have to work all this afternoon getting my photo projects ready for class that are due tomorrow and Wednesday. Oh, and are there any of you out there reading this that are fans of HEROES or LOST? Like last season, I've dropped off the 24 boat. It is comforting to me to still have some television fantasy drama to be able to escape into.
