this can't be good...

365 - Day 53 - {extra} another fairytale ends..., originally uploaded by daryldarko.

See, I'm not THAT depressed! I drove to the top of Mt. Diablo yesterday to take photographs in the snow. You can see those photos here. Alas, while trying to pose an extremely creative self portrait (the mirror was balanced on a mossy outcropping of a huge oak tree) a brisk wind picked up and over toppled the mirror to the ground. It actually bounced once on it's crown and I could have dived to catch it but I stood frozen in disbelief and watched it fall onto it's face and smash.

What does this mean... hmmm. I have only broken one other mirror in my life. It was an even more beautiful mirror than this one. An antique mirror purchased at a yard sale in Santa Cruz the weekend Billy (my son) and I moved into our apartment on the campus of UCSC. It was very large and quite heavy, made of very thick glass. There was a perfect wall to hang it on too. It was on the wall for no more than three minutes before the old cable that it came with snapped from the weight and it thunderously crashed to the floor. Our first day in Santa Cruz! Did seven years of bad luck follow? ROTFLMAO! {1995-2002; you go figger!}

Anyway, I picked up the pieces yesterday and deposited them in a trash bin so the park rangers wouldn't have to. I kept the frame though. I'll do something creative with it. Oh, you can see the self portraits I shot with the mirror here.

I do not prescribe to any theories or practices of superstition but I do not believe that is enough in itself to prevent superstitions from having power. The years 1995-97 were great years for me. The best I had lived since I broke up with Aine. But in 98 I crashed; hard. And it was until at least 02 before I started to become well enough to start to do things again.

Ok, this is not what I want to talk about. Gonna stop now. There is one more post I will make this weekend. And please people, feel free to comment in the comment area. Post anonymously if you want. Or write to me privately and let me know if it is ok for me to post your comments.

Wow! What dramatic punctuation this event provides for The Tale of the Mirror...

I love your belief that not believing in superstition is insufficient to prevent superstition from having power. :-) But one thing I do know, and that is we have the power to change our own experience ...

By bringing in the power of beauty and magic and attempting to understand and bring consciousness to the events of your life as you do through your art makes all the difference. To your own experience of life, and to all of us who share in it through your art.

Stay connected to your heart, and to the brilliant light that shines within it. Keep writing and playing and singing and photographing and connecting with the light in others in the way you do so beautifully, and all things will be well.

That's my moment of wisdom for you this morning, anyway. :-)

I love you, Daryl. You're such a shining star.

Great self portraits you took. You're just a ball of talent. Sorry about the mirror. It was a beauty too. I'm not superstitious either. I have a cousin that is and bad stuff is always happening to her...lol. I guess it's true that if you believe it you'll give it power. BTW, this is Venom75 from bravejournal. I have a new blog now but am keeping in contact with my friends from braveland.

Hi Anna! Wow, great to hear from you. I haven't been to my bravejournal in ages. Thanks for coming by, and thanks for the compliment. Yeah, I think ALL belief systems are prone to give us more than we sign up for, so I actually tried to discontinue using the word "believe" for awhile. Thats how I became agnostic. Anyway, did you leave a link to your new site? I miss reading your poetry...

Yes and believe it or not I'm still writing and finally getting my book together. It's a slow process but it's coming along. My poetry site has moved as well. It's now called Unspeakable Truths. My blog is here.

Well good for you Anna about making your book happen. It is a slow process but when we know it is our purpose there is no getting away from it, right? I'll put your sites on my bloglist. Thanks again for coming by! Have a great rest of the week.
