I have so much to build a story from but when I try to force it into something usable it just doesn’t’ work. Is this the way to do it? I’ve said this so many times, that I want to tell you the story of me trying to write this story. Tell you about the whys and the how to’s that I choose to include to explain what I tell you. for instance, why do I insist on talking so damn much about cemeteries? Why does talking with the dead, or trying to fascinate me so much? (I don’t care about the fact that other people can do so. It is my own need to do so that is important and so damned interesting to me.)
I am glad that I wrote so much about my torment of loneliness since last July because those pieces carry so much description of my raw and hurt, desperate emotions. I believe that I can cull through that work and find much work from which I can draw upon to begin the actual work of my novel from. So this means that I need to start the tedious task of mulling through my transcripts. I think I actually need to print them out to do this and to do this properly and most cost efficiently I need to use a laser printer. I will either need to purchase a new one or get the old Okidata one fixed. Good project; do some research to actually determine whether this is a valid argument or not; laser printing versus ink jet printing being cheaper. (this is a #1 priority task)
Ok, back to resources that I have already created that I can use to start the work of actually writing my novel. I have all of the notes/ideas that I have been gestating since February that need refining. There certainly is enough material there to really take off with and get this thing going.
What I said yesterday about “three voices”, I think I will need to keep one of those voices silent from the reader. Well, for now at least I think one will need to be silenced. I am not brilliant enough to write such a complicated piece that would not confuse or frustrate even the most sophisticated reader. (well, or even interest one such garbage!
I read a book from cover to cover this week! 245 pages from cover to cover; first time I’ve accomplished such a task in I don’t know how long. A very, very long time; easily eighteen months – the last attempted reading being a Robin Cook medical mystery about the discovery of a new anti-depressant medication.
I just picked up two books off a shelf here in the library that Gigi told me about, a new author that she likes named Ben Sherwood. I’ve just read a chapter out of each of these books and see two things. I can’t write in this style and I don’t enjoy reading works written in this style. Here is the weird thing though. I think that if I really pushed myself to I could get through these pieces. Actually, that is a pretty forceful wish. I don’t know if I could or not, but maybe I should just to see what the creative arc of the story is and not be swayed by the language or the sentiment. And maybe I really shouldn’t be bothered. I could just go to Amazon and read the reviews written there. (good idea!) I enjoyed the Roald Dahl book so I will continue with the short story collection that I have acquired and see how that effects me.
