forced down time, watching movies for da fun
a couple of days ago i got a shooting pain in my ankle, out of nowhere, like i had broken it or something. i hadn’t though. nor had i twisted it. it was like a ghost stab or something. the pain got worse by the hour and my only idea of a remedy was to sit in the hot tub and let the hot water massage it. that helped but it did not fix it. i hobbled to my car and got home after midnight. got into bed and propped up my foot and hoped for a good night’s sleep. that hope didn’t come true.
by 7am i was having cramps in my calf and the back of my thigh. one good thing was that my ankle was not swollen. it’s still not, 3 days later. but the pain in the ankle and the potential for cramping is right under the surface of my skin. i’ve had to use a cane to get around the house today. why have i not gone to the doctors yet? partly because i can’t drive the car to get myself there. partly because i don’t want to sit in the e.r. for 6+ hours for them to end up telling me that there is nothing wrong, like they did last time. i’m just hoping that a day or two of bed rest will make this go away.
so the only t.v. i’ve watched the past two days are the local baseball teams. oh, and i watched a great horror film on Kreepy KOFY Movietime last night; Werewolf in the Girls Dormitory. BUT, i have been watching some movies on dvd. yesterday i watched a film i should have seen years ago. DONNIE DARKO DIRECTORS CUT. yeah, yeah, i’ve seen the theater cut Donnie Darko around 8 times, and i knew about the Directors Cut for over a year now and just obtained a copy recently but never watched it until yesterday. IT IS ESSENTIAL VIEWING FOR ANYONE THAT TRULY WANTS TO UNDERSTAND THIS MOVIE. soo many secrets are revealed and the characters are taken much deeper in their developments. this has given me a higher respect for writer/director Richard Kelly and i decided to get a copy of the Donnie Darko Book so that I can learn even more about the mysteries of this incredible film.
what mad the viewing even more special was my recent discovery that i’m distant relatives of 2 of the actors in the film; Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal are both my 20th once removed cousins. i only found this out recently through my geneaology research at geni.com. i’m going to end up writing a long letter to the three of them to let them know more about how this film has affected my life. sometimes its just better to wait on things. more pieces fall into place.
then this afternoon i watched another movie; Julie and Julia. freaking genius film. and it touched me on so many levels. my own love of cooking. my own (imaginary) love of Paris. my own involvement with blogging and my desire to become an acknowledged writer. and my desires to be part of a mutually loving relationship with another human being. yeah, this film killed me.
i’m going to watch another movie tonight that stars two other people that i am distantly related to; Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth called The Lady From Shanghai. more on that in a second. i’m actually watching Pal Joey right now in which Frank Sinatra plays this really scuzzy womanizer. He was not good looking, he was skinny, he did not speak respectfully to women yet in this film women hang all over him. I have no idea what kind of positive message this is meant to give about relationships or being respectufl. Rita Hayworth is in the movie and is really lovely, but she falls for this guy. I don’t get it.
so i found out at geni.com that Rita Hayworth is my 22nd cousin. and i’ve just been trying to see as much of her as i can. turns out that she is buried very near to where i’m going to be doing my next Cemetery Girl photo shoot in Los Angeles and i’m going to take my model for photographs there. yeah, and my tour to L.A. this is my step up to the big time. actually photographing famous people. all my work up until this point has just been preparation and schooling for the big time. i hope i don’t flop. and i hope my leg is recovered by the time of my trip. my first day there is June 21.
