oh why not, just a little more anti-valentine sentiment...
Right! Well, you know, I had a little bit of hope that I was going to get to break my pattern of no romance on Valentine's Day. And it's not romance I'm looking for. Not really. Not on the surface anyway. Last year, totally by chance I met someone that I got to spend several hours with on Valentine's Day. Some of you remember, the young lady Julia that I photographed for my Cemetery Girl project?
We had such a great platonic experience that afternoon that we decided to get together one more time, about 2 weeks later. Took more photos on a rainy afternoon. Went to a thrift store where I actually found the exact things I wanted; a miniature rhino, dinosaur, and elephant to give to the Adrian Belew Trio as gifts when I was going to see them the next night. The point is that we had a simple innocent time together. We still chat or text every once in awhile, but I've never seen her again.
The delight of it was that it was unplanned and unexpected. It started to seem that a similar type experience was going to happen this weekend. It didn't though. I think I've become good at not reading too much into events in my life these days. I'm just afraid to say anything about this right now for a couple of reasons. One is that there is no romance in my life. I don't really want romance in my life. I feel that I am over romance and don't want to be affected by it's malignant powers anymore. My experience last year with Julia was devoid of romance and that was what made it so wonderful.
Ok, so I'll say it. There is a new woman friend in my life that I've spending a little bit of time with. We met two years ago at DVC in my digital photography class. I've always found her to be an interesting person, but she has a very private sense about her life and I've never been able to get her attention unless she was willing to let me have it. Recently, due to events in her life, she is letting me have more access to her attention than ever before. We've had dinner together a couple of times, we text each other every once in awhile. Yesterday we were going to hang out, as friends. It didn't happen though, and it was no ones fault really, other than the person that she used to be closely involved with. Ok, that is all I will say about that/her now.
My emotions dipped just a little bit yesterday when she said she couldn't make it. And this is the important part of this entire post. I did not crash into an emotional pit of self pity and despair, like I did two years ago when I had a disastrous semi-romantic experience with a woman. THAT was bad. And I cannot afford to go through anything like that again.
So for right now I'll just say that I have a person of interest hanging around my peripheries that I share some common interests with. And that I survived Valentine's Day!!!
