hurting, needing a break...
i've been working harder the past month than i have in a very long time. i'm not asking for credit or a payoff (liar, yes i am !) - damn! ok, so i wrote a review for a concert i went to last Tuesday night - submitted it in 2 days (not expected to be turned in for 4 days). then i go to another concert Friday night. i photograph 3 bands and write a review. turned it all in in 2 days. i have not received any acknowledgment from the magazine yet. maybe because it is the weekend. what i am suspecting is that maybe i'm blowing their minds a bit in that i am turning my work in so fast. another thing bothering/worrying me is that my partner at the zine, "M", has not returned my calls or emails since I last saw him on Tuesday night after the show that night. I was so tired that I did not offer him a drive home. i mean, i don't think he ever gets rides home but from me, and it's not like he is not used to taking the bus - it wasn't raining. so i am thinking he is pissed off at me and not returning my calls. i even sent him an email offering him to be part of my cell phone plan - long story...
now what i am suspecting is the matter is that "M" covered the Ween concert on Saturday night. a show that he has known for weeks that i wanted to cover. in fact, the first time i mentioned the show to him he said "who is ween?". but he has acted all along like he had no interest in going, despite my repeated requests to do the show. i just checked his calendar and what does it say? that he went to Ween on Saturday night. i mean, i don't care. that is the way this business is for me right now. i am not part of the staff, yet. but that he is afraid to say anything about it to me seems really immature. i don't care. i got to go to an amazing show on Friday night instead and saw a band that i've developed a new love for. and Ween will be back.
soooooo, there is another show i want to see on Tuesday night. The Waterboys. I've been a fan of theirs since the mid-80's and have seen them twice. They are this Irish folk-rock band led by this guy i'm calling a spiritual troubadour, Mike Scott that writes these songs that just break my heart down. that is what i was listening to last night when i wrote about crying to music. this music heals me. and i really, really want to see them badly.
i asked the guys at the magazine to get me into the show but i have a feeling that since i have not heard from them that either they have lost interest in my writing/photo skills, or more realistically that there was just not enough time for them to get me a ticket as i only asked them last Wednesday for a show this coming Tuesday.
and i don't have enough money for the concert. i've been spending a lot of money on gas since i've been going to so many more shows, plus my Flickr Pro account expired an hour and 4 minutes ago - thats $25 dollars for another year that i have to pay right now.
so dear reader, if you've read this far... i want to ask if there is anyone out there that would be so kind as to gift me a ticket to this show. to buy the ticket through Ticketmaster is $30 plus fee. or you could PayPal me the money. i'd promise to pay you back however and whenever i could.
all the shows i've been covering lately are not my sort of music. none of these shows i've seen are bands or music i love. not music that truly sets me free. The Waterboys are music i love and fly free with when i hear it. i need to dance, i need to sing out... set me free?
