the way things are; now...

well, i've mentioned it to some of you in person and i think i mentioned it here or on the other blog that i was being interviewed for a paying position at the library. that was Wednesday last week. they left a message for me on Friday saying that they wanted to talk to me. not to boast, but i felt pretty sure that this was a slam dunk, that the job would be mine. i already do the needed tasks on a volunteer basis (just less hours than they want a hired person to do them). i am enrolled in classes at the JC to become a library technician and i have past experience working in libraries.

i phoned back on Sunday, the day the supervisor that interviewed me said she would next be at work. she told me that i did not get the job. i have a lot of mixed feelings about this, and a lot of troubling thoughts going through my head too. regardless, i showed up for my volunteer shift today and did my responsibilities spot on.

the reason she told me that she was not "able" to hire me was that i did not score highly enough on the civil servant interview scale of points. that there were errors i made in the interview. the errors were that i did not state what was already obviously known by the woman who was interviewing me. the trouble she said was that the other woman performing the interview had to hear me state these things; that i was currently volunteering at this library, that i was taking college courses to become a library technician, and that i had previous experience working in a library. all things that were detailed in my application, and all things that i assumed the two of them would have discussed about me before or after the interview. why i had to "say these things aloud" during the interview baffles me.

i do not think that the matter of having a criminal record had anything to do with their decision not to hire me. (i was honest and told them on the application that i had been arrested once, in 1980 in London for possession of a controlled substance, that i was fined 25 British pounds and released.) i think maybe they think i am a bit of a weirdo though, that i wear earrings and don't keep my hair cut neatly.

anyway, in the end, i don't care about not getting the job. i really was not looking forward to the pressure of what keeping the schedule would be like. and now that i am all back into photography and am signed up for these digital photography classes at the college for next semester that is what i'd rather spend my time doing. i was looking forward to having a pay check to supplement my social security check (for however long that would be allowed) so that i could eat a little better and send more money into my debtors.

she said to interview again next time the position opens up. i guess...

Don't get the blues about it Daryl, especially if you were already having conflicting thoughts about the schedule.

I think photography is your calling. Keep up the great work! *thumbs up*
